Re: the poster thing - I tried to change the poster manually as described above by dragging and dropping in the poster section of the info box. But when I do, the poster doesn't change.

Hi guys,

Really love this programme - exactly what I was looking for to organise my video files!

I was wondering if it's possible to organise TV episodes with Double Feature, without adding each individual episode as a separate movie and cluttering the 'All Movies' section?

I understand I could work around this by using lists, but it is there a way to group movie files together under one heading? Ideally I would like to have a TV list, under which there are lists of each show, which you can double click to reveal a list of seasons, which you can then click again to show a list of episodes.

Is that possible? If not, would it be considered for a future version?

Wow, thanks for the "*.*" tip. Been using Windows for years, and never knew you could type that into the "File name" box and hit enter to show all. I was looking for the drop down box that would do the same, but it wasn't there. Thanks, DeJohn! Now, if only I could get the program to auto-recognize all .mp4/.m4v files without having to add each file one at a time.

Just type *.mp4 in the file name box and hit enter. Or you could type *.* hit enter and it will list all files in the current folder

Is it possible to find/add .mp4 videos? Most of my movies have been converted to a format that will play on my iPod, so I don't have many videos that are listed in the video type drop down menu.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there no .mp4 support for this program?

I'm new to Double Feature, but I absolutely love it. I've already shared it with multiple people. It's very easy to use and does most of what I was looking for.

Like everyone, I do have a couple suggestions...

1) Create a "seen" button. Like I said I am semi-new to using it so maybe I haven't seen it (I have seen the 5 star system, but that doesn't really offer much of a benefit since you can't see it on the main page). It would be perfect if it showed up on the poster of the movie (like a star or circle in the corner). Just click if seen or not. Reason for this is that I, like a lot of people have hundreds (or even thousands) of movies.

2) If there was a separate section for TV shows.... I have amassed a HUGE collection of tv shows but it doesn't appear Double Feature finds many of them, and even if it did, and there is no way to really index them in the program.

Again, Thanks so much for the program... I love it already and plan on using it for a long time!!!!! I just saw you appreciated suggestions so those are mine.

first off, great app! i was online for hour looking for this exactly! free, simple, and gets the job done!

i do have one problem though,

when i choose to view all the movies in one window (200~ movies), i get an error, and i can only view them all in "details" view... if that can be fixed somehow, this would be perfect!

also, two suggestions:

1. have both "fetch" options combined, adding also a "fetch artwork" feature.

2. some better tag cutting on the file name, so one doesn't have to manually change the file name to fetch info.

Hi I really like all of the features included in the program. The only slight gripe I have is with the display. I feel that the size of the posters should be adjustable and the genre list hide-able. I want less intrusive menu options and an overall more serious aesthetic.

Those are my suggestions! :)

+1 for the manual poster fetch fix, i've had the same issue, often when first imported my file names are all over the place, so they seldom get posters, later when i change them to correct file name and try fetch info - all info except poster downloads - at this point i revert to the earlier suggestion and search for poster then drag and drop onto poster space on file info.

Sorry for the double post, but:

I FOUND THE PROBLEM WITH GETTING POSTERS! :)

When you initially add the movie, IF the software can use the filename to find the movie and fetch the info, it will fetch the poster. However, If the file name is a mess and the software cannot find the movie, it will not fetch the information when you add it. You now have to manually click Fetch Info, change the name and click search (it now finds the movie since you cleaned up the name), but when you click replace, it DOES NOT also fetch the poster.

So a quick summary:

Adding a new movie DOES fetch the poster if the filename of the movie brings up the movie in its search.

Manually running Fetch Info DOES NOT fetch a poster.

Please fix! :)

Whenever I try to play a movie from the software, I get an unhandled exception. My default Video player is VLC. I am running Windows 7 x64, with Double Feature x64

I think the developer should take note here that I am now the second person to have both of these exact same problems.

I understand there are work arounds, but these things should really be fixed.

When I click ALL movies, I expect to see ALL movies. The "Show Last 10 Movies" should be a completely different category.

Secondly, and I REALLY hope this gets fixed, because other than these 2 things this software is flawless and amazing, The "Get Info" does not get a poster for all of the movies. My favorite thing about this software is that it shows all the posters of the movies. It looks great, like Netflix view except you own all these :P. Anyway, so for all the movies that it failed to get posters for I have to go and download an imagine and then edit the movie and drag the image into the box. I think the whole point of this software is to save you time and do all the work for you, this hassle defeats the purpose of the software. I don't know where you get the movie info from, but you should probably grab it from somewhere more reliable like IMDB.com.

I really hope this issue is fixed soon!

Hi, you can add your own poster by dragging the image into the box in the Info window (Poster section).

You can see all your movies in Settings > General > Show __ last movies added. If you put "0" in the textbox, you can see all the movies.

Hello, new to software and have a couple of questions, No1 - when get info fails to find image / poster how do i add my own?, some of my animations are form kids series i.e batman brave and bold, and are not found by get info, I can edit all text based details but not image/poster.

No2 - This may be a stupid question, apologies if it is, when strating up i get a 'last 10 movies added' view, i want to be able to see all movies, but when i click on 'all' (left hand side top) i only ever get last 10, all other genres work i.e thriller, family et.c.Tried to get around this by making smartlist with '*' wildcard but this doesnt work either..

An active search would be pretty useful as well. When searching for a movie it should start to sort through similar to how iTunes does its searches.

This project is really neat and it works pretty well for me.

However, I truly need the feature to search within folders. I have sub folders within sub folders where I store all my movies. If you could add support for .m2ts and .mp4 as well that would be great. A majority of my movies are .mkv and .avi but I did a lot of experimenting when initially encoding my movie collection.

Again, this is a really sweet and simple program that really captures exactly what I need. It just isn't quite there yet.
